Government Finances and the Economy
Based on
the analysis of the fiscal reports for the months of January, February and
March, Government finances were favorable during the first quarter of 2022.
This was influenced by the receipt of a ‘one off payment in the form of
dividends’ of $17.5M, budgetary support in the form of grants of $81M and
increases in tax revenue; combined with less than planned current or
operational expenditure. Capital spending was higher than planned, but the
government achieved an overall surplus.
